Preludes and Poetry
Artistic Director Javier Velasco will guide audience members through the SDB aesthetic and experience. This intimate presentation will feature highlights from the San Diego Ballet repertoire and Mr. Velasco’s choreography including Suite Italianne, Reminiscence, How High the Moon, and more. A surprise piece created especially for this performance will be presented. The performances will be followed by a Meet the Artist discussion with Mr. Velasco and dancers of the company.
Carnival of the Animals
Created especially for the children, Carnival of the Animals is a colorful journey through the animal kingdom, set to the beloved music of Camille Saint-Saens and folk music from all over the world. This performance is presented in association with Animal Cracker Conspiracy and the Living Coast Discovery Center.
America’s favorite holiday event! The San Diego Ballet’s Nutcracker features an international cast from China, Japan, Russia, South Africa and Mexico as well as San Diego School of Ballet’s children from all over San Diego County. In its 23rd year, this ballet fantasy delights with over 100 beautifully costumed dancers, reveling in Tchaikovsky’s beloved score.
Lovely and lyrical, compelling and passionate, last year’s world premiere retelling of Byron’s epic poem of love, intrigue, and the folly of humanity springs to life on the Lyceum stage. Prepare to get swept up in romance… with a decidedly Latin flair!
